GENERAL HISTORY

The Managing Director, TJF Barnett, holds a diploma in yacht design and is a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers in USA and a professional member of the Naval Architectural Society of New Zealand. Tim and his wife Susan own the Tortuga Steamship Company which produces the Windhawk 35

 Tim Barnett is a New Zealander who studied in the USA and began his design and consulting business in Seattle in 1980.   Barnett Offshore Design has been in business for 24 years and during this period has designed and constructed many unique and innovative craft.  Vessels that have not only shown themselves to be exceptional in the pleasure and commercial boat market but also in the international patrol boat market. The company had it own construction facility up until 1995 at which point it employed a staff of 22. The company closed its manufacturing business to focus solely on design and consulting. The company was the first to offer computer cut kitsets. A list of design and construction projects follows:

39 foot  Cruising Yacht designed for Circum Navigation

110 foot  Motor Yacht Olympus, redesign and complete interior refit.

Design and construction of 52 foot Racing Yacht, extremely light weight construction utilising specialist application of carbon fibre and Kevlar.

46 foot  Luxury Cruising Yacht utilising premium quality materials and an extremely high standard of finish.

42 foot  Yacht Shoofly, light weight racing boat for single handed international races.

Design an 82 foot  Motor Yacht powered by three MTU V8 TB93 engines and three Hamilton 421 water jets.

Design and construction 28 foot  High Speed Patrol craft 65 knots.

Design 42 foot  High Speed Catamaran Patrol craft, two x 375hp Sabre Engines and 361 Hamilton Jets.Sri Lankan Navy

Design and Construction of 28 foot  High Speed Pleasure craft single V6 OMCC drive.

Design 42 foot  Motor Yacht twin Volvo Penta Duo props, 200hp.

Design  63 foot  Motor Yacht twin V12 MAN Diesels with Hamilton Water Jets.

Design and construction65 foot  Luxury Sport Fisherman twin 760hp MAN Diesels, Hamilton 421 Water Jets.

Design 47 foot  Luxury Cruising Yacht Volvo Penta powered.

Design 50 foot  Luxury Motor Yacht twin TAMD 71 Volvo Penta and Levi Surface Drives.

Design of 28 foot  High Speed Patrol Boat for Malaysian Customs.

Design of many Service Barges for Marine Farming Industry.

Design of 125 foot Maori War Canoe for Te Runanganui.

Design and construction 35 foot  Traditional Launch.

Design and construction of Special Purpose 35 foot Escort Vessels for Outward Bound Trust of New Zealand.

Design of a range of planing and displacement catamarans in computer cut kitset.

Design of 10m and 14m Searun tri hull ferries for Malaysian Client.
